Here's some outtakes from the training and attempt to climb Mt. Rainier end of July 2001. A superior annotated version resides at thrall.net photographed and assembled by Craig Thrall. Right on, Craig. That's a sweet page.

Geoff's about to kick my ass.

Doesn't look so big.

Look. It's smaller than the wing.

Mark and Jerry storing up their energy.

Adams, Mark, Craig and Nate at the lookout.

Nisqually glacier from the lookout.

Hiking along the Nisqually glacier.

Nate trying to decide if this is a good idea.

Sucking it in for Gretchen.

Nate, Jerry and Craig on the Nisqually.

Geoff, Nate and Peter continued on for a three day kayak off Lopez Island in the San Juans. Except for some hairy currents in the channel on the second morning no one came close to death. We did some 'pirate' camping on the last night that was well worth the worry of some Microsoft millionaire sailing his yacht over to kick us off...

Needing a shave on the ferry.

Pissed off because Nate beat Peter at badminton and croquet.

Geoff and I have navigational issues.

Nate after visiting some seals.

Somewhere in there is the head of a harbor seal.

Hitting the beach for lunch on the south side.

Geoff reclining on Ram island.

Sunset shared with a thirsty raccoon.
